What we collect

When you run a check we store the name you typed, the countries you selected, the outcome, the time, a salted hash of your IP address, and a random visitor identifier. The hash is used for rate limiting and cannot be reversed into an address. The identifier is a random string set in a cookie so we can tell repeat visits apart in our analytics; it is not linked to your name, email or any account, because we never ask for those.

What we do with it

Names and outcomes are aggregated weekly to produce naming trends. Individual result pages are shareable by their link and are hidden from search engines. Result details are cleared after 30 days; the aggregate log is kept.

Third parties

Checks are made server-side against the App Store, Google Play, DNS and RDAP registries, YouTube, TikTok, X, Instagram, GitHub, npm and Product Hunt. Your browser never contacts those services directly through NameHQ. We use Google Analytics 4 and Cloudflare Turnstile. Links to registrars and partners may include an affiliate tag; we earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you.

Cookies

Two first-party cookies: one protects the search form from cross-site abuse, one holds the random visitor identifier for up to 400 days. Google Analytics sets its own cookies if you have not blocked them, and Cloudflare Turnstile may set a cookie while it verifies that you are not a bot. We do not use advertising or retargeting cookies.

How long we keep things

Full result pages are cleared 30 days after the search. The aggregate search log (name, countries, outcome, hashed IP) is kept so we can publish naming trends. Cache entries expire within 24 hours. Rate-limit counters expire within a day.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold that relates to a search you ran, or ask us to delete it, by emailing the address below with the result link. Because we never store an email address or account, the result link is the only way to identify a search as yours. Residents of the EU, UK and California have additional rights under GDPR, UK GDPR and CCPA, and we honour them on request.

Children

NameHQ is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top will change with it. Material changes will be noted on the homepage for 30 days.
